ROSE WINDOW, (49" diameter)
In adaptive reuse of historic windows, we must often invent a new
window that helps create a seamless adaptation. In the reuse of
two scenes from the New Testament that invoke the presence of the
Holy Spirit, the Ascension and Pentecost, we designed this rose window
to reiterate at once the religious theme of the Holy Spirit and
the visual theme of the Gothic canopies present in the historic
windows. In the resulting design the symmetry of the Gothic tracery
forms an ornate jewel-like cross. The rose window is centered above
the two figurative scenes and the dove in the center of the rose
symbolically spreads its wings over the two events beneath it. |
