Saint Edward
Catholic Church
North Augusta, South Carolina
Window 106 H x 33 " W
Designed and painted by Joseph K. Beyer
Window fabricated by Artisans of Beyer Studio, Inc.
This
single-lancet window was a commission from an old friend, Father
Peter Clarke, Pastor Emeritus at Saint Edwards Church in North Augusta
SC. In 1996 the studio relocated thirty magnificent windows from
the closed Saint Edwards parish in Philadelphia to the new Saint
Edwards Church Father Clarke was building for his Parish. After
the project, there remained one window that did not receive stained
glass. Father Clarke requested a design featuring four Saints that
share the name Theresa, Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint Therese of
Lisieux, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and Saint Teresa of
Calcutta. The assignment required a design that matched the style
of the renowned 1905 Bauvais France windows that fill the Sanctuary.
I chose to group the four saints in an interactive natural pose.
The calligraphy above the figures was executed by Rita Beyer, matching
the Norman gothic styled text in the French windows.
